just curious about everyone's reaction to this picture... is it offensive to you? do you feel it's mocking Christ? or more spinning off the whole Mel Gibson thing? or maybe the two are inseparable? obviously this has much of Christendom up in arms, but i was curious as to your personal reactions.
my reaction is basically [shaking head and rolling eyes] "arrogant bastard"... does it offend me? hmmm....
ya my initial reaction was that rolling stone loves to push the envelope as far as possible with it's cover shots. and that this was their attempt to piss off white christian america with a black jesus. i think i'm offended just because i think kanye west is such a whiny little boy who would love to have the jesus mantle placed on him for having claimed he's suffered much abuse from bad critical reviews for some of his songs.
offend? i don't know... more along the lines of "oh, brother..." west is a prounounced instance of the weird disconnect within a lot of hip-hop dudes who say "i wanna give a shout-out to God who blessed me with these skills" and "whe' da booty at?" in the same breath. i guess i'm guilty of the same disconnect in other areas as well... good question fatty.
What's most interesting to me is the juxtaposition of this image and "God's Senator: inside the war room of the religious right." Man, that really looks like a set up. I wonder how many issues they sold of this one?
